.life.is.not.just.about.jokes.as.it.is.a.joke.itself.?.

hi all,

my first post for the year 2010 and we are already marching into march! (synchronised with our blog's name).

in the midst of the darkness, there is always a gleam of light!

well, the 2 jokes shared by our guest speaker, rev lawrence seow on 27 feb's service are hilarious and i am trying to pen them down so that they may be useful for you when you need to break the ice.

i hope i am able to reproduce as closely as to what was told on saturday.

main character: an old man

joke #1:

there is a young chap who walks towards a bench in a park and chooses to sit beside an old man.
the old man turns his head and takes a look at the young man.
'what are you looking at, old man?’ asks the young man.
'have you not seen this colourful spiky hair style before?’ chides the young man.
'i bet you have not done something as wild as this, dyeing your hair with so many different colours!’ says the young man with a sneer.
the old man moves his head closer to the young man and he takes a closer look at the latter.
then, after taking a deep breath, the old man heaves a sigh and says, 'well, young man, i have.'
'in fact, i am thinking if you are indeed my son as i was wild like you before because i slept with a peacock when i was drunk at your age!' the old man continues.

joke #2:

an old man is speeding on the road.
a traffic police car is following the old man's car closely and when the old man is asked to stop his car, he doesnt conform to the request and steps on his accelerator!
the traffic police officer finally gets to overtake the old man's car and the latter has to eventually stop his car.
'why didnt you stop your car earlier on?' asks the officer.
'my wife ran away with a traffic police officer last month and i thought you were that guy and was chasing after me to return her to me!' the old man says with a frown.

enjoy!

Nice song

Song title : Grace by Laura Story

I was ministered by God with the lyrics of this song.
Can watch it here if you are keen.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-FribXzqHVE&feature=related

God is a patient God. I think many times I get impatient with myself too.
This great God who loves me is patient with me... even at times when I fail Him.

Hope that this song will encourage you along this wk.

farewells

It was a very emotional last day of school term in Koriyama High School today as I came to realise a lot of things about Japanese students. They can spend a whole year being shy and not talking to you but when it comes down to the crunch where you are leaving, they write you the most sincere letters filled with heartfelt gratitude and suddenly have outburst of emotions.

I gave a very heartfelt farewell speech in Japanese for the closing ceremony today and almost teared when the student councillors presented me with a Koriyama High School sweater with my name embroidered on it in Katakana.

I went to the chorus club's public perfomance later in the night and as I left the building, I was shocked and deeply moved by the 2 rows of chorus club girls who were shocked to see me, were screaming my name and holding on to my hands, almost in tears that it was so hard for me to hold back my tears as well.

I have perhaps failed miserable at being detached once again, even though I came knowing I would only be here for a year. But I am tahnkful for everything that has happend to me in Japan in the short span of time, and nothing can ever replace such an experience.

To quote from Che Guevera in the Motorcycle Diaries:

~ What do we leave behind when we cross each frontier? Each moment seems split in two; melancholy for what was left behind and the excitement of entering a new land.

I am humbled as I come to realise that the words "everything happens for a reason" can only be truly appreciated with hindsight, and I am thankful for the times of my lowest of moments here in Japan that helped me to appreciate the highs later, even more.

"Sorrow is better than laughter, for sadness has a refining influence on us."

.it.is.good.to.be.in.deep.shit.

A little bird was flying south for the winter. It was so cold, the bird froze and fell to the ground in a large field. While it was lying there, a cow came by and dropped some dung on it. As the frozen bird lay there in the pile of cow dung, it began to realize how warm it was. The dung was actually thawing him out! Soon, a farmer passed by and heard the little bird chirping. Seeing the poor creature covered with dung, he decided to help the bird get out of the mess and placed it under a shrub. By this time, the bird was feeling warm and chirpy. and A cat passing by heard the sounds, saw the bird and ate it up.

Morals of the story?
1) Not everyone who drops shit on you is your enemy.
2) Not everyone who gets you out of shit is your friend.
3) When you’re in deep shit, it might be better just to keep your mouth shut.

A turkey was chatting with a bull. “I would love to be able to get to the top of that tree,” sighed the turkey, “but I haven’t got the energy.” “Well, why don’t you nibble on some of my droppings?” replied the bull. “They’re packed with nutrients.” The turkey pecked at a lump of dung and found that it actually gave him enough strength to reach the first branch of the tree. The next day, after eating some more dung, he reached the second branch. Finally after a fourth night, there he was proudly perched at the top of the tree. Soon he was promptly spotted by a farmer, who shot the turkey out of the tree.

The moral of the story?
Bullshit might get you to the top, but it won’t keep you there.

A crow was sitting on a tree, doing nothing all day. A small rabbit saw the crow, and asked him, “Can I also sit like you and do nothing all day long?” The crow answered: “Sure, why not.” So, the rabbit sat on the ground below the crow, and rested. All of a sudden, a fox appeared, jumped on the rabbit and ate it.

The moral of the story?
To be sitting and doing nothing, you must be sitting very, very high up.

THANK YOU SO MUCH!

Hi Jeremiah!!!

Thank you all for my birthday gift! I wanted to get a thumbdrive myself, because it is essential for a student! I needed it alot, and when I opened up the gift wrap, I was really overjoyed to see a thumbdrive! THANK YOU!

Anyway my apologies for not joining you guys for the costume party, as I just finished Sundown Marathon at 5 a.m. in the morning. It was a tough route, especially when you are running alone. But I saw this runner with these words printed on his singlet "Running towards God."

I was so inspired and thought to myself how God has enabled my sick body to undertake such an arduous challenge. I managed to finish the marathon with God running beside me. When the going gets so tough, I ask God to empower and encourage me to keep on going. And I managed to finish the marathon!

God is around us. Even when we think we are lonely, we aren't, because God is always around us. Jiayou to everyone for the coming weeks and months of work. May God bless all of you guys! *WOO HOO*

Ron.

.happy.birthday.

Cao Dai Temple in Vietnam

hihi! Not long ago I was in Vietnam holiday-ing.. and during fri cell group I was sharing about this vietnamese religion and their interesting temple.. there is this group of people in Vietnam who call themselves the Cao Dai Sect, and they believe in the Cao Dai religion (btw Cao Dai means 高塔, tall tower). Cao Dai religion is actually a combination of 4 existing religions: Buddhism, Taoism, Christianity and Confucianism. Below are some pictures I've taken.

Exterior
Photobucket

Photobucket
this eye can be found everywhere in their temple...

Interior
Photobucket
these are believers taking part in a prayer session.

Photobucket
and yes! you can find Confucius, Lao Zi (Taoism), Jesus and Buddha... this is found in the direction that all the believers are facing to.

.identify.

hi all,

received this email recently. i thought it would be good to share.

RECOGNISING A STROKE

Remember the "3" steps, STR.

Sometimes, symptoms of a stroke are difficult to identify.

Unfortunately, the lack of awareness spells disaster. The stroke victim may suffer severe brain damage when people nearby fail to recognise the symptoms of a stroke.

Now doctors say a bystander can recognise a stroke by asking three simple questions:

S* Ask the individual to SMILE .
T* Ask the person to TALK to SPEAK A SIMPLE SENTENCE (Coherently) (i.e. . . It is sunny out today).
R* Ask him or her to RAISE BOTH ARMS.

NOTE : Another 'sign' of a stroke is this: Ask the person to 'stick' out their tongue. If the tongue is 'crooked', if it goes to one side or the other that is also an indication of a stroke.

If he or she has trouble with ANY ONE of these tasks, go to the hospital immediately!

Describe the symptoms to the dispatcher.
